Introduction to PTE

The Pearson Test of English: Academic (PTE) is an English language exam conducted on a computer to determine whether non-native English speakers are prepared to enroll in a university-level English language instruction program. PTE is recognized worldwide for student visa and immigration applications. Pearson created PTE Academic in response to requests from institutions, ministries, and other organizations for more accurate testing of non-native English speakers entering the English-speaking academic world.

Beginning 10th August 2023, PTE (Academic) score is considered as a valid language proficiency score under the Student Direct Stream (SDS) visa category for Canada. To be eligible under SDS criteria, an applicant needs to have an overall score of 60 in PTE (Academic). The scores of Home-based PTE are, however, not considered valid under the SDS visa category for Canada. Only the scores of the tests conducted at authorized centers will be considered authentic.
